LIC Digi Term

A plain-language explanation of Plan 876, UIN 512N356V02: who can apply, how premiums are paid, what the family receives if death occurs during the term, and why nothing is paid if the insured survives to maturity.

Plan at a glance

Digi Term is an online-only, non-participating, non-linked individual pure-risk plan. It provides life cover during the selected term; it is not a savings or investment plan.

Entry age18 to 45 yearsAge last birthday.
Maturity age33 to 75 yearsThe selected term must fit within these limits.
Basic sum assured₹50 lakh to ₹5 croreAbove ₹5 crore may be considered case by case, subject to underwriting and reinsurer acceptance.
Policy term15 to 40 yearsLimited-pay 15-year policies have a 20-year minimum term. Increasing-cover maximums vary by age, cover band and payment type.
Payment choicesRegular, 10-pay, 15-pay or singleRegular and limited premiums may be yearly or half-yearly.
Minimum premium₹3,000 instalmentRegular/limited mode; minimum single premium is ₹30,000. Taxes are extra.
Cover choiceLevel or increasingThe selected death-benefit option cannot be changed later.
At maturity₹0 maturity benefitNo survival payment, money-back amount or bonus is payable.
Minimum income: the supplied LIC brochure, Customer Information Sheet and policy wording do not publish a fixed minimum-income figure. Income should therefore not be shown as a guaranteed eligibility threshold. Acceptance, cover amount, premium and any extra terms remain subject to LIC's underwriting and the evidence requested for the proposal.

How the plan works

The customer chooses the protection structure first. LIC then assesses the proposal. Cover continues only while the policy remains in force.

1. Choose coverSelect Basic Sum Assured from ₹50 lakh and choose Level or Increasing cover.
2. Choose termSelect the policy duration within the age and product limits.
3. Choose paymentPay throughout, for 10 or 15 years, or once at the start.
4. UnderwritingPremium and acceptance depend on disclosed details and LIC's assessment.
5. Keep it activePay due premiums within the allowed time so risk cover remains in force.
6. Policy outcomeDeath during term: eligible claim is paid. Survival to maturity: no payout.

What changes the premium?

LIC's brochure says the payable premium depends on:

  • age at entry;
  • smoking status;
  • gender;
  • policy term and premium-paying term;
  • Level or Increasing death-benefit option;
  • the selected cover and LIC's underwriting decision.

Non-smoker rates depend on the urinary cotinine test. In other cases, smoker rates apply. Taxes and any underwriting extra premium are additional.

What this plan is not

  • It does not build a maturity fund.
  • It does not pay a survival or money-back benefit.
  • It does not earn a bonus or share in LIC's surplus.
  • It does not provide a policy loan.
  • The supplied Customer Information Sheet shows riders as not applicable.

Premium-paying process

The premium-paying term and policy term are different. A limited-pay customer can finish paying earlier while the life cover continues until the selected policy term ends, provided the policy remains in force.

OPTION 1

Regular premium

Pay premiums throughout the policy term. Available payment frequency: yearly or half-yearly.

OPTION 2

Limited pay - 10 years

Pay for 10 years. The policy term can be longer; minimum policy term is 15 years.

OPTION 3

Limited pay - 15 years

Pay for 15 years. The minimum policy term for this choice is 20 years.

OPTION 4

Single premium

Pay once at inception. Minimum single premium is ₹30,000, excluding taxes.

If a regular or limited premium is late: there is a 30-day grace period for yearly and half-yearly premiums. Cover remains in force during the grace period under the policy terms. If the premium is still unpaid after the grace period, the policy lapses and benefits cease. Revival may be requested within five consecutive complete years from the first unpaid premium and before maturity, subject to arrears, interest, continued insurability and LIC's approval.

What the nominee receives

The policy pays only for an admissible death claim occurring after commencement of risk and before maturity while the policy is in force.

Regular or limited premium

The Sum Assured on Death is the highest of:

  • 7 times the Annualised Premium;
  • 105% of Total Premiums Paid up to death; or
  • the Absolute Amount Assured on Death under the chosen Level or Increasing option.

Single premium

The Sum Assured on Death is the higher of:

  • 125% of the Single Premium; or
  • the Absolute Amount Assured on Death under the chosen Level or Increasing option.
If death occurs during the term

The eligible Sum Assured on Death is paid, subject to the policy being in force and the claim being admissible. The life assured may choose during their lifetime to have all or part of the death benefit paid to the nominee over 5, 10 or 15 years.

If the insured survives to maturity

The policy ends and no maturity benefit is payable. There is no return of premium, survival payout or accumulated investment value.

Death-benefit instalments: available monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. The minimum instalment is ₹5,000 monthly, ₹15,000 quarterly, ₹25,000 half-yearly or ₹50,000 yearly. If the claim amount cannot support the chosen minimum, LIC pays the proceeds as a lump sum. The calculation rate is set under the policy formula and can change over time.

Important rules before buying

Free-look period

30 days from receipt of the electronic or physical policy document, subject to the deductions stated in the policy.

Grace period

30 days for yearly or half-yearly premiums. A death during grace remains covered under the policy terms, after applicable premium deductions.

Revival

A lapsed regular or limited-pay policy may be revived within five complete years and before maturity, subject to LIC's conditions and approval.

Paid-up value

None. This plan does not convert into a reduced paid-up policy.

Loan

No policy loan is available.

Surrender

No surrender value generally. An Unexpired Risk Premium Value may apply to single-premium policies and to limited-pay policies after at least three consecutive full years of premium, as calculated under the policy.

Regular-pay exit

No amount is payable on surrender of a regular-premium policy.

Suicide exclusion

For death by suicide within the applicable first 12 months, the policy specifies 80% of eligible premiums paid rather than the normal death benefit, subject to its conditions.
